Movie Madness Monday!!

Today's book to screen feature is . . . Divergent!

In case you couldn't read the title,
this is Divergent!
There is no movie poster yet, but here is the image of the novel. I'm hoping that the movie poster is as cool, because the novel cover art ROCKS! The movie is currently in production, as in they are still filming in Chicago. In fact a favorite scene was being filmed at the Chicago farris wheel just in the past week. Those of you who have read the book, you know which scene I'm talking about. ;)

For those of you that don't know, the book Divergent is about a post-apocolyptic world where one large society (basically a city the size of New York) have seprated into 5 factions. These five factions have specific roles and duties within the society. At the age of 16ish the children of the factions can choose to remain in the faction they grew up in, or they can change factions. The story centers around Tris who chooses to leave her home faction and join another that is considered to be very dangerous. The story is totally unique and an amazing example of how deep and layered YA fiction can be. It truly is the heir to the Hunger Games throne. Some may even say it was better then Hunger Games. Don't kill me, I'm just saying some people say!!!!

First look at the production!!
The film is set to be released March 21st, 2014, so we have a wait. But there are many good movies set to come out between now and then to keep us occupied. The actors for the movie are an eclectic combination of well known and unknown actors. I love it!!! Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Four, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Ashley Judd as Natalie Prior, Kate Winslet as Jeanine Matthews, to name a few. Out of all the casting, Theo James surprised me the most. He's not been in much, and most of his IMDB page I've never heard of. Except for UnderWorld. I'm a big fan of that franchise! But he seems a little old of Four. Four is supposed to be older then Tris by a few years, but I feel like Theo looks so much older then I pictured Four to be. However, it is amazing what make-up artists can do to actors. Maybe they'll make him look 18?

There are some great groups on facebook if you want to join the Divergent Nation. Also, the author Veronica Roth is very accessible to her fans. She updates her blog on a fairly consistent basis and tries really hard to make sure readers know whats going on in her world. I'm super excited for this movie and I hope they stay as true to the book as a movie can!!!!!
